Times Union Center

The Times Union Center is an indoor arena in Downtown Albany and used for many sporting events as well as concerts. The arena opened in 1990 and was initially known as the Knickerbocker Arena. It is a short distance from the Greyhound bus station, Hilton Albany, and the boutique hotel 74 State. Depending on the seating arrangement, the arena can fit from 6,000 to 17,000 people. The arena also has 25 luxury suites, at the top of the inner bowl, which is rented on a three-year lease. Each suite has 16 seats and facilities include a private bathroom, refrigerator, and cable television.

Teams from the National Basketball Association (NBA), Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), National Hockey League (NHL), and the American Hockey League (AHL) have all played at the Times Union Center. It is also the venue for college sports under the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships. Well known personalities and groups in the music world that have used the arena for concerts include Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, U2, Grateful Dead, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
