The Empire State Plaza is Albany’s most noticeable landmark, a huge government complex with more than 11,000 state employees working here. There are areas open to the public and the Empire State Plaza Art Collection features 92 works of modern art placed across the complex. For stunning views of Albany and the surrounding areas, head to the Corning Tower Observation Deck on the 42nd floor of the Erastus Corning Tower. The impressive architectures of the late 19th century New York State Capitol and Albany City Hall are both listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Henry Hudson Planetarium is one of NASA’s official Space Place offering shows and interactive programs designed to educate visitors about the universe. If you are in the mood for exploring, take a walking tour of Downtown Albany starting from the Albany Heritage Area Visitors Center. If you are into a bit of history, the Schuyler Mansion and Cherry Hill are two 18th century houses listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For a little adventure, take a canoe, kayak, cruise, walk, or bicycle along the Erie Canal and pass through canal communities, national parks, and historic landmarks.
