Getting In


By Plane
Albany International Airport is technically an international airport but flights are mostly domestic. Four US airlines account for more than 95% of the planes handled by Albany Airport including Southwest, United, US Airways, and Delta. The airport has direct air links with Boston, Detroit, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Chicago, Newark, Charlotte, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia. Ground transport includes taxis, limousines, and buses. Several car rental companies are also located at the airport.

By Car
From the west, the I-90 passes through the upper region of New York State and then travels southwards towards Albany. From the east, the I-90 connects Boston and then travels northward towards Albany. The I-87 connects with New York City in the south and the Canadian city of Montreal in the north – the I-87 intersects with the I-90 in Albany. 

By Train
The Albany-Rensselaer Amtrak Station is located on the east bank of the Hudson River. The station is one of the busiest and serves the northeastern routes. Trains passing and stopping at the station include the Maple Leaf (New York City-Toronto), Adirondack (New York City-Montreal), Empire Service (New York City-Niagara Falls), Ethan Allen Express (New York City-Rutland), and Lake Shore Limited (New York City/Boston-Chicago). Taxis, local buses, and car rental companies are available at the station.

By Bus
Greyhound buses directly link Albany with Boston, New York City, Buffalo, and Montreal. The Greyhound Station is located near the waterfront and a short distance from the Times Union Center. Long distance bus company Megabus links Albany with New York City and Ridgewood in New Jersey. Megabus stops at the Albany-Rensselaer Amtrak Station and University at Albany (Collin Circle).
