Woodlawn Cemetery

 
 
A cemetery may not be an idea of a tourist attraction but the Bronx Tourism Council promotes Woodlawn Cemetery as one of the borough’s attractions. Besides, the cemetery is designated a National Historic Landmark. Woodlawn is the largest cemetery in New York City, covering more 400 acres (160 ha) and the final resting place for more than 300,000 people. Famous personalities buried here include Clarence Day, Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, Oscar Hammerstein, and Joe "King" Oliver.

Woodlawn Cemetery is a beautiful cemetery with its rolling hills, tree-lined roads, grass-covered lawns, memorials, and private mausoleums. The cemetery welcomes visitors and receives thousands of visitors from around the world each year. Normal visiting hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Being a final resting place, recreational activities here are strictly limited. The Woodlawn Conservancy conducts guided tours of the cemetery and other programs including concerts and lectures.
