Bay Plaza Shopping Center
The Bay Plaza Shopping Center is adjacent to Co-op City (a more affluent part of the Bronx) and just off Interstate 95 (I-95) and the Hutchinson River Parkway in East Bronx. Opened in the late 1980s, the Bay Plaza Shopping Center is not only a major shopping mall in East Bronx but also one of the largest in New York City. The shopping mall opens throughout the week – general retail hours on Monday-Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday-Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Bay Plaza Shopping Center claims to have some of the highest performing stores on a per square foot basis. There are over 50 department and specialty stores here with big names such as Kmart, JCPenney, Barnes & Nobles, Toys “R” US, and Payless. Other major tenants include Jimmy Jazz, DSW Shoes, Radio Shack, and Old Navy. If you need a bite then there are Burger King, Red Lobster, Bagel Cafe, Gennaro’s Pizza, Dallas BBQ, and Häagen-Dazs. There is also the AMC Bay Plaza, a multi-screen cinema.

Mall at Bay Plaza
The Mall at Bay Plaza will expectedly open in the spring of 2014, an extension project of the Bay Plaza Shopping Center. Once open, this state of the art shopping mall will occupy 780,000 sq. feet (72,500 sq. meters) of retail space and with 1,800 parking garages, making it even larger than the Bay Plaza Shopping Center. The Mall at Bay Plaza will be the first enclosed anchored shopping mall since the Queens Center, in the borough of Queens, opened in 1973. Macy’s will occupy 160,000 sq. feet (15,000 sq. meters) and JCPenny will occupy 150,000 sq. feet (14,000 sq. meters) as anchor tenants at this new shopping mall.
