Brooklyn, New York City

Eats & Restaurants

Downtown Brooklyn

Walking on the Brooklyn Bridge across the East River from Midtown Manhattan, you will finally find yourself in Downtown Brooklyn. This is the heart of Brooklyn, being the borough's commercial, business, as well as civic center. Though Downtown Brooklyn cannot claim to be the center for dining in Brooklyn, there are definitely no shortages of places to eat. Eateries here range from the street food vendors, fast food chains, takeaways, to mid-price restaurants. However, there are only a handful when it comes to upscale restaurants.

There are plenty of American-style eateries dotted throughout Downtown Brooklyn including delis, bistros, steak houses, casual, and family friendly restaurants. There are also plenty of ethnic eateries especially Italian and pizzerias. Others include French, Spanish, Latin America, Indian, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, and Middle-Eastern. The Fulton Street Mall may be a good starting for shopping in Brooklyn but when it comes to eating, is mostly occupied by fast foods if that is your choice.

A good starting point to explore the dining scene in Downtown Brooklyn is the area leading from Willoughby Street to Adams Street. There is a good mix of eateries within the area but expect to find fast foods as well. Another location is where Atlantic Avenue meets Smith Street with several Middle Eastern establishments also located here. The Bedouin Tent at 405 Atlantic Avenue is popular for its felafel sandwiches and hummus. Another is Zayton at 283 Smith Street and its specialties are the kebabs dishes.
