Farmers' Market

There is just about a farmers' (green) market in every neighborhood of Brooklyn. Even with the modern grocery stores and supermarkets, many residents of Brooklyn still shop for their fresh produce at the markets. There are nearly 30 farmers' markets in Brooklyn with half managed by GrowNYC and the other half managed by the local communities. The markets in Brooklyn provide residents with access to fresh produce including fruits, vegetables, diary, and other farm produce from the region.

Many of the markets close during the colder months or before the harvest season, which is usually from December to June. A popular farmers' market in Brooklyn is the Borough Hall Greenmarket held at the plaza in front of the Brooklyn Borough Hall in Downtown Brooklyn. The market is held on Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the year and on Thursdays from April to December. Besides fresh fruits and vegetables, expect to find dairy and meat products, cut flowers, ornamental plants, and even a cooking demonstration at this market.
