Manhattan, New York City

Times Square

Times Square is a busy intersection in Midtown Manhattan located at a junction on Broadway and Seventh Avenue. This is a glitzy and touristy area of Manhattan and the center of entertainment in New York City. At night, brightly colored digital advertisements light up Times Square and is one of the most densely illuminated areas in the United States. Major buildings occupying Times Square include the Bank of America Tower, Times Square Tower, and the New York Times Tower. Being a major tourist spot, there is a Visitor Center at 1560 Broadway between 46th and 47th Street.

There is plenty to see and do in Times Square that a day in the area would not be sufficient for most visitors. Times Square and the nearby areas are homes to several Broadway theaters producing many award winning productions. There are also several cinemas, screening the latest movies including blockbusters. During New Year's Eve, nearly one million people gather here waiting to celebrate the coming of the New Year.

There are no shortages of 3-5 star hotels in Times Square but rates here are among the highest in New York City. When it comes to eating out, there are plenty of options ranging from the humble street vendors to the dining restaurants. A popular dining destination is Restaurant Row (on 46th Street between Broadway and 9th Avenue) but the restaurants here are an expensive affair. Times Square is also a popular shopping destination especially among tourists with its multitude of stores selling a wide range of items.
