Manhattan is home to a multitude of interesting museums and galleries in New York City. A popular destination for museums is the Museum Mile stretching along Fifth Avenue between 82nd and 104th Streets. The Museum Mile is home to 11 museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Guggenheim Museum. Each year on the second Tuesday in June, there is the Museum Mile Festival offering free entrances to participating museums from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Science & Technology
A popular museum in New York City is the Intrepid Sea, Air, & Space Museum centering on the former World War II aircraft carrier U.S.S. Intrepid. Another popular museum is the American Museum of Natural History, one of the largest natural history museums in the world comprising of 46 permanent exhibit halls. Popular with children is the Sony Wonder Technology Lab with plenty of entertaining yet educational exhibits on science and technology.

For art lovers, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is home to more than two million works of art including sculptures and paintings from around the world. Another art museum is the Museum of Modern Art, a must for lovers of modern art with its extensive contemporary art collections. Another contemporary art museum is the Guggenheim Museum, renowned for its collection of impressionist and modern arts. The Museum of American Folk Art is devoted to artworks by self-taught American artists from the 18th to 21st century.

History & Culture
The National Museum of the American Indian describes the history and culture of native Indians throughout the Americas including the Caribbean. Another is the Hispanic Society of America, a free museum devoted to Portuguese, Spanish, and Latin American arts and culture. The Asia Society Museum is a small museum devoted to Asia with exhibits from the vast regions of the Far East, Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Central Asia.
