Fort Tryon Park is a 67-acre (27 hectares) park situated on a ridge overlooking the Hudson River. This is a scenic park occupied by shady trees, manicured lawns, and beautiful gardens. In spring and summer, flowers at the Heather Garden bloom covering the area in an assortment of colors. The Alpine Garden mimics the Alpines of Europe with its rocky outcrops, grotto, low growing plants, and creepers. There are also paths to explore through the scenic woods of Fort Tryon Park.

Carl Schurz Park is a 15-acre (six hectares) park overlooking the East River in the Upper East Side. Within Carl Schurz Park is Gracie Mansion, the official residence of the city's mayor. In reality the mayor does not live here and therefore open to the public for guided tours. The park features walking paths, manicured lawns, a children's playground, and two dog runs. Every autumn, the park becomes the venue for the Gracie Square Art Show and Halloween Howl (canine costume competition). The park also stages concerts and screening of movies in summer.
