Theaters in Manhattan
New York City boasts an enormous number and variety of theatrical performances including Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off-Broadway theaters.

  • Broadway theaters are near Times Square and have a capacity of 500 seats or more. Shows are major musical productions with big budgets and are the most popular with visitors.
  • Off-Broadway theaters are smaller with less than 500 seats and usually with a certain intellectual seriousness. Some are located around Times Square while others are in different locations across Manhattan.
  • Off-Off Broadway theaters have a seating capacity of less than 100 and located away from Times Square, mostly in Midtown Manhattan. Shows are small scale productions and some are avant-garde.

Tickets to the Broadway theaters can run up to $140 a seat but discounted tickets (up to 50% off) are often available. Off-Broadway theaters tickets cost $30-50 and Off-Off Broadway theaters $10-30. Tickets to the Broadway theaters can be purchased from the Broadway Concierge and Ticket Center at the Times Square Visitor Center.
