Aquarium of Niagara 

 
 

The Aquarium of Niagara is located within the downtown area of the city of Niagara Falls, which is adjacent to Niagara Falls State Park. The aquarium opened in 1965 and is primarily devoted to research, education, wild-life conservation, and creating greater awareness about the aquatic world. The aquarium is home to more than 1,500 species of aquatic creatures serving not only students and scientists from the region but also attracting visitors to Niagara Falls. The aquarium opens seven days a week (except Thanksgiving and Christmas) from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The Aquarium of Niagara exhibits an interesting range of marine and freshwater creatures living under various ecosystems, ranging from the Great Lakes to coral reefs. Aquatic creatures include piranhas, eels, seahorses, sea stars, sturgeons, and sharks. Other creatures include harbor seals, California sea lions, bottlenose dolphins, and Peruvian penguins. There are several special programs including close encounters with the penguins and seal lions, observe a sea lion training session, watch a seal presentation, and a shark feeding session.
