Canadian Niagara Falls

Canadian Currency
The Canadian currency is the dollar (abbreviated as $ or C$) and divided into 100 cents. Common currency notes when purchasing are the $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 notes. Coins in circulation include 5 cents (nickel), 10 cents (dime), 25 cents (quarter), 50 cents (50 cent piece), $1 (loonie), and $2 (toonie). There are no 1 cent coins and prices are rounded to the nearest 5 cent when paying. Canadian 50 cent coins are rarely seen and often a collector’s item. It is common to see U.S. coins used alongside Canadian coins and are similar in sizes.

Purchases in Canada’s Niagara Falls are in Canadian currency. The conversion rate as of September 13, 2013, is at 100 United States dollars to 103.175 Canadian dollars. At the time of writing (September 13, 2013), many merchants here will accept the U.S. dollar for cash payment at par with the Canadian dollar. You can convert your U.S. dollars to the Canadian dollars with the banks or money changers, but they charge a conversion fee. If paying by credit card, your U.S. or non-Canadian credit card company will do the conversion and bill the purchase to your statement.
