Some of the most extreme and turbulent rapids along the Niagara River are located within Whirlpool State Park. The roar of the rapids is tremendous and deafening, easily drowning all other sounds. The 125-feet (38 meters) deep whirlpool here is a result of a sharp turn in the flow of the Niagara River into the valley of the St. Davids Gorge. The water flow along the rapids is extremely dangerous and personal boats are prohibited here. However, the Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours offers visitors a chance to ride on the rapids and experience the boat swirl as it comes into proximity of the Niagara Whirlpool.
