Most of the theaters in New York City are in Manhattan with its Broadway, Off Broadway, and Off-Off Broadway theater performances. You will not find that many theaters in Queens but there are a few gems in the borough. The Queens Theatre in the Park is a community theater and a major venue for plays, musicals, concerts, and dance performances. The Great Hall is a 308-seat theater in Flushing Town Hall and another major venue with its state-of-the-art audio equipment and extensive lighting. The Thalia Spanish Theatre is a bilingual (Spanish and English) Hispanic theater with a reputation as a leader in the Spanish theater movement.

There are several movie theaters in Queens including multiplex cinemas owned by major movie theater groups and smaller cinemas owned by independent operators. Among the larger movie theaters is the 15-screen Jamaica Multiplex Cinemas in Jamaica Avenue. Major independent theaters include Cinearts Cinema in Forest Hill and Kew Gardens Cinemas in Kew Gardens, screening indie films, art films, and foreign language films. For American classics and international films, the Museum of Moving Image screens more than 300 films each year.
